GIOVANNI MARIANI

 

He started to develop an interest in Afro-American music, particularly blues and gospel, in the late seventies. Got a degree at Padua University with a thesis called “BLUES POETRY : STRUCTURES AND THEMES, and in the early nineties he started to perform as a singer with THE SOUL DOCTORS, a rhythm’n’blues band.

In 1997 he contributed to the creation of ONE FOOT IN THE BLUES, with which he recorded a live album in 1999. In the last few years he has been working hard in order to widen and improve his expressive means , especially in the field of jazz.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

NICOLA DAL BO

 

He studied at Conservatorio di Musica “Benedetto Marcello” in Venice and got a degree with honours in piano, harpsichord and music teaching. Later on studied with jazz pianists Paolo Vianello and Bruno Cesselli, and then attended the Summer Jazz Workshop of the Manhattan School of Music held in Castelfranco Veneto in 1998; in 1999 worked there as an assistant teacher and translator.

He teaches jazz piano at “Benvenuti” Music Institute in Conegliano and in other schools in the province of Venice. Moreover, he has been working regularly at Gran Caffè Ristorante QUADRI in St. Mark’s square in Venice since 1999.

Apart from being a regular member of ONE FOOT IN THE BLUES, he plays the piano and the organ with several other jazz musicians in northern Italy, among whom are Pirgiorgio Caverzan, Piero Cozzi, Mauto Ottolini, Andrea Massaria, U.T. Gandhi, etc.

He is also a composer and has recorded three albums :

CRISTIANO DA ROS

 

Acoustic and electric bass player, composer and music teacher, he has been playing the electric bass since 1989 and the double bass since 1999. In 1998 attended a summer course held by the Manhattan School of Music in Castelfranco Veneto. Thanks to a scholarship in 2002 he attended a summer clinic in Perugia, where he got another scholarship which enabled him to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

At the moment he is a student at the Experimental three-year jazz course at Conservatorio “G. Tartini” in Trieste, where he is in touch with some of the most influential Italian jazz players; moreover, he studies Computer Engineering at Padua University.

He has been working in the fields of blues, rock and black music for quite a long time, has been a member of several bands and has taken part in numerous music festivals.

He has also played an active role in many projects which combine music, poetry and painting. As a matter of fact, he is a regular member of ONE FOOT IN THE BLUES, often plays with jazz guitarist Giovanni Buoro and now is taking part in the theatrical production of the show “La Signora Canta il Jazz” of playwright and director Mario Perrotta, dedicated to Billie Holiday.

He also teaches electric bass, tonic sol-fa, music theory and ensemble in several music schools such as Associazione “La Sordina”, “Riviera del Brenta” in Mira (VE) and Associazione “A.F.M.” in Marcon (VE). He has played in the following albums :

VINCENZO BARATTIN

 

He has been working hard with several Italian and American blues artists. Consequently, has acquired wide experience in this field and has toured Italy and quite a few European countries.

He has been a regular member of ONE FOOT IN THE BLUES since 1999, and has developed a strong interest in swing and jazz drumming.
